Once in awhile we will see some protest songs gain recognition. In order for a protest song to climb the charts today, the message has to be a little bit more oblique, as most labels do not want to be tied with controversial political opinions. Radiohead’s song Idioteque, the 8th track off their album Kid A, is a classic example of a protest song that’s message is not completely obvious. Idioteque, written in 2000, illustrates a doomsdays situation, most likely being about climate change. The lyrics read, “Who's in bunker, who's in bunker? Women and children first / Ice age coming, ice age coming / We're not scaremongering This is really happening, happening.” Radiohead never had to say anything about global warming directly. *** However
