This ongoing problem in United States is cause by a poorly educated system that is currently in act. Students start to go to school from six o’clock in the morning and end school at around four o’clock afternoon. After that, they attend private tutoring sessions that their parents paid for and finish going home at around eleven o’clock pm. The reason for Koreans to attend long hours of studying is to make them prepare for university entrance exams and going to the elite university, students will later get a great and stable career. Due to long hours of learning the materials, this probably one of the reasons why students in South Korea do well in school. In the excerpt, Michael Moore support his contention that America is a nation of idiots through pointing out varies supporting statistics, and survey results. In my point of view, it is a good idea to use an eye catchy title “Idiot Nation”, to arouse the public attention and sympathies. However, too extreme rhetorical or argumentative strategy he used in the essay, such as “Hunt these little pricks down like dogs, then cage them until we can either break their will or ship them off to the glue factory!” (Moore 6) may led to readers either having the strong sense of recognition or feeling disgust with the topic. The number of personal experience he had shared characterize his dedication of creating a better atmosphere of schooling, as well as…

The effectiveness of the American Educational system is declining at a very alarming rate and that can be blamed on the expectation of all students in school and the increase usage of technology. Without a doubt, the educational system in the US is failing when compared to other countries like Taiwan or Finland whose student percentage level in advanced level math is 25% larger. The expectations of students in school is a large problem in the educational system which needs to be addressed. In “Stop the Madness,” by Diane Ravitch it states “The most toxic flaw in the NCLB was its legislative command that all students in every school must be proficient in reading and mathematics by 2014.”…

For example some districts and even states have large amounts of students who do not perform well in school and show no intellectual curiosity compared to other districts and states. So saying in the article that all students are lazy and show no interest in their academics should not be implied nor is it true at all. Another problem with this article is the comparison to the South Korean educational system. With no statistics or data it’s hard to say if they are better than us in an article. Even if they are what exactly are they better at.…

As education is something we take for granted today, the idea that education up until recently, has been considered a luxury – available only to those able and willing to afford it, is surreal to us. As the demand for necessary universal education increased, opinions on schooling have shifted. In Horace Mann 's report for the Massachusetts Board of Education in 1848, he places confidence in the ability of education to be able to give people of all backgrounds an equal opportunity for success. He describes education as “the great equalizer of the conditions of men, – the balance-wheel of the social machinery”. Mann idealizes education as a force that will erase all class divides between people and provide them a sense of individualism.…

Everything Wrong with School A hundred years ago, education for American children was a privilege, a rarity. Something that many people did not have. Now, almost every child in America sits through a mandatory eight hours of school in a public or private institution for five days a week, nine months every year; and after enduring this process for twelve consecutive years, students are prompted to further their education and attend college. A system so simplistic in idea, yet undeniably flawed for students.…

This is clear in almost all of his work including his book, Idiot Nation. In this, he discusses the downward slope of the American public’s knowledge and the poor state of American schooling, which he has no problem completely tearing apart. He already has an established credibility as this kind of author and through that he can create a stylistic narrative to achieve his ultimate purpose:…
