Parkinson’s Disease The topic that has been chosen for my research paper is Idiopathic Parkinsonism or Parkinson’s disease (PD). Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative brain disorder that typically will progress slowly (3). It affects the nervous system of mostly elderly people and there is no cure for it. The major symptoms of PD include slowed movement, muscle stiffness, and tremors. “On average, about 1 to 2 out of 1,000 people have Parkinson’s” (4). The Center of Disease Control rated Parkinson’s 14th for the top complications that result in death (3). Parkinson’s is known for damaging the nerve cells in the brain that would normally produce the chemical messenger dopamine. Dopamine has

Therefore, those who are affected may have trouble with particular movements and balancing. The treatment for Parkinson’s is very limited since there is no specific cure for the disease. Medication can be used for the replacement of the dopamine that the brain is no longer producing which in return relieves many of the symptoms but it will not decrease the rate in which the disease is progressing (4). The pathophysiology of someone’s brain activity who has Parkinson’s is different then the brain activity of someone without the disease. The most significant clinical sign in diagnosing someone with Parkinson’s is bradykinesia. Bradykinesia is the abnormal function of the basal ganglia-cortical neuronal circuits, which then results in a disorder of the motor functions (7). The neurons in the basal ganglia output structures are being disturbed resulting in increased bursting, firing, correlated activity, an augmented synchrony, and a tendency towards loss of specificity in their …show more content…
By keeping oneself active and staying positive about the situation will help dealing with the disease easier (4). Persons that are affected are capable of doing everyday tasks just like anyone that is unaffected up until the disease has almost fully progressed. Eventually, the person affected will need to be prepared to become dependent and not be embarrassed when help is needed (4). Parkinson’s is something that no one wants to be faced with but if someone does become affected than it is important to know how to live ones life without it bringing them

Moving Day Moving Day, it’s an event organized by the Parkinson’s Foundation with the help of other partners to remember and celebrate those people living with this progressing disease that affects many of our elderly. It’s also an opportunity to create awareness, to educate the people about the effects of this disease that not only affects the elderly but can also have a slowly progression of symptoms in an early age, and it’s as well a great opportunity for funding. So, what is Parkinson’s disease? Well Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by tremors, rigidity, bradykinesia, and postural instability due to a deficiency of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Every single one of these characteristics affects individuals with PD in many ways, these symptoms vary from one person to another, some people may experience it differently.…

Throughout the years, scientists have been looking for cures and answers to dementia. Friederich H. Lewy discovered Lewy Body Dementia, being the second most common form of dementia right under Alzheimer’s disease. More than 1.3 Americans have been diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. Research on Lewy Body Dementia and new forms of medications have made progress since it was first discovered making it a little easier to cope with but still no promising cures. Lewy body is a severe yet relatively unknown type of dementia that has dangerous symptoms, not a lot of documented history, but currently has no promising treatments.…

Side effects and symptoms of dopamine agonist medications can be presently seen in a person within six weeks of taking the medication (Drugs 2). The drug Levodopa is thought to be the most effective drug for controlling the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, but Levodopa has not been shown to slow disease progression. Taking this medication is supposed to delay the symptoms of PD, but it could even make it worse. Additionally, the drug has significant abnormal side effects for some patients such as dyskinesia, which is an abnormal impairment of voluntary movement (Drugs 2).…

Step 1 is one side of the body, Step 2 is both sides, 3 is when you start developing problems getting around, 4 is when you need help getting around, and 5 is when you can’t get around except possibly in a wheelchair. So hopefully this speech might help you recognize early signs of Parkinson’s in your friends and family and if so maybe help them get the proper treatment early on. Thanks for listening. Parkinson Late Adulthood

One of the most common growing disease in late adulthood is Parkinson which is a progressive disease of the nervous system with symptoms including tremor of the hands, arms, legs, jaw and face which is caused by failure of the normal cellular compensatory mechanisms in vulnerable brain regions, bradykinesia or slowness of movement, rigidity or stiffness of the limbs and trunk, postural instability or impaired balance and coordination. One of the main reason for these symptoms is the loss of dopamine which helped the Thalamus to regulate the movement by reporting the sensory information about the movement of the body to the brain. According to McNamara (2017), the loss of dopamine in the brain circuit which disrupts the performance of thalamus.…

Aging and Parkinson's disease: Why is propelling age the greatest hazard variable? As the second most normal age related neurodegenerative infection after Alzheimer's illness, the wellbeing, social and monetary effect coming about because of Parkinson's disease will keep on expanding nearby the life span of the populace. Aging remains the greatest danger element for creating idiopathic Parkinson's disease. Despite the fact that exploration into the components prompting cell passing in Parkinson's disease has revealed insight into numerous parts of the pathogenesis of this issue, regardless we can't answer the central inquiry, what particular age related variables incline a few people to build up this regular neurodegenerative illness.…

About 1 million people in the US suffer from this disease and it’s most common to show its symptoms around the age 50. Parkinson's disease isn't contagious and hasn't been confirmed to be hereditary because there aren't any signs that show a parent suffering from Parkinson’s disease would determine their child's chances but it’s common for Parkinson’s to run a family. The original name “Shaking Palsy” provides an explanation of what this disease infamous symptom is. A lack of coordination and balance, inability to comfortably walk or stand, reoccurring stiffness and slowness and tremors/trembling mainly in the hand region are the the common signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s.…

Some medical experts estimate that patients being diagnosed with Parkinson’ disease is on the rise, despite this, they cannot give an accurate number. Getting an accurate count of the number of cases is difficult because many people in the early stages of the disease may assume their symptoms are the result of normal aging and do not seek medical attention (National Institute). Parkinson’s disease is one of the most difficult cases to diagnose because its symptoms are very vague and that they also appear in other neurological disorders, in viruses, and even in bacterial infections from the common cold to UTI infections. Most symptoms fall into two categories: motor and non-motor symptoms. Motor symptoms primarily deals with movement and coordination and non-motor symptoms does not have anything to do with movement.…

To begin with, PD has no possible cure, the treatment offered to the patients is purely temporary, to control the side-effects. Also, there is no exact cause for this disease, it could very well be genetic, or derived. For the most part, however, scientist believe that a lack of dopamine in the substantia nigra area of the brain may be the primary cause of PD. Genetics and age are also two other factors to be considered. Age cannot be used as the only factor since “about 10 percent of the nearly 1 million people living with the disease in the United States are under the age of 40”…
