There are many causes for constipation/obstipation, the primary due to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances. Excessive grooming, mechanical obstruction (foreign body, parasites, intussusception etc.), functional obstruction (due to drugs or idiopathic megacolon), painful defecation, stress or reluctance to defecate, as well as metabolic diseases such as obesity and hyperthyroidism. This was a case of idiopathic megacolon, which resulted in obstipation. Parasite infestation may have contributed to this disease, as patient was not regularly dewormed and questionable lung pattern on radiographs suggested parasite migration.
