Ideologies in the Mirror According to the political compass test we were assigned to take, I am a left libertarian; both my economic and social beliefs fell left of the scale. Given what I know about ideologies thus far, I 'm not surprised by these results. I 've often tended to side with more liberal sides of debates and have taken a few of these tests before in previous history classes. Whenever I do take tests like these, I often reflect back on why I hold the views that I do. Most of these beliefs stem from the way I was raised, but I’ve also gained different perspectives on issues through the media and my own personal experiences. First and foremost, I am a feminist. Before I became obsessed with film, I was a huge science person, especially of the environmental studies. While oil has supplied our energy source for several years, it is a depleting resource. Other sources of energy, such as wind power and solar power, should be implemented into our society before we are faced with an energy crisis. A plethora of the questions from the test capture my beliefs and why I think they are valid. For example, I agree with the statement, “Because corporations cannot be trusted to voluntarily protect the environment, they require regulation.” As exhibited before in history, many companies only care about profits and not the well being of the earth. The BP oil spill of 2010 proves the regulations of companies are needed to prevent major environmental and health crises. I also agree with the sentiment that “Possessing marijuana for personal use should not be a criminal offence.” It is evident that a large percentage of jail inhabitants are in there due to harsh restrictions and laws against drugs. While there should be laws in place for drug usage and solicitation, a person should not have to do the same time in jail as someone who has committed a more serious
