Another type of creativity that IDEO uses is Improvement. The “Shopping Cart Project” was a task given by ABC to IDEO because they are the top product design company. Redesigning an already working product is what they are known for. That task given to them was to invent a new version of the shopping cart. To do so, IDEO went to there their group design team to take on this challenge. The team first starts off by defining what problem with the original shopping cart. They discovered that safety for children and theft seem to be some of the top problems. Issues like this were building block IDEOS uses to therefore invent something new and improved. Although group member are initially given their individual space to think and come up inventions but the whole idea of group work still implies. IDEO also makes sure their is a skilled experienced group leader to help facilitate the team on not only just keeping their deadlines of a project but also empowering them as innovated being. The group leader states the standards of how the product should be and what specific should be target for the teams approach on the new invention. According to Dave Kelly the man who run IDEO, he state IDEO requires “a lot of hours, teamwork, a boss that wants you to come up with new ideas, open ideas and a belief that chaos can be instructional.” In Corporate America these very same aspects can fit except the belief that chaos can be instructive. I believe traditional firms does acknowledge that stress can bring solutions or even be used as way to motivate workers to work effectively. But in IDEO the terms of chaos is more encouraged than frown upon. IDEO has more fun with the methods of getting work done more or less the workers seem to enjoy working there. One of the top designers has turned down medical school several times just because he enjoys working at IDEO. I don’t believe most company has such loyalty from their workers. In “traditional firms straying away from standpoint of companies such as IDEO, there is a different mindset of how business occurs or even certain terms that is used than in those who working an field of innovation on creativity which seems to be a place where IDEO dominates. Still I believe the three principles of fostering creativity which is something that IDEO practices can also be used in the traditional firms. The first principle of pulling people apart; putting people together is used to as a way to develop individual’s way to create new idea. The second principle of monitor and prod. Occurs which acknowledges that
