Identity Issues In Social Media

There are different views on identity and race issues in social media. Some of the social media is movies, T.V., and YouTube. One of the issues I noticed was a girl on girl hate. A YouTuber named Superwomen also known as Lilly Singh pointed it out. In 2016, Lilly Singh wants to stop girl on girl hate bullying and started #Girllove. According to Lilly Singh, states, “The sad reality is that girl-on-girl hate is such a big issue in schools, at work … [and] online, and it never made any sense to me, because as women we know how awesome other women can be.” (Hamady,” Lilly Singh's #GirlLove challenge: End 'girl-on-girl hate' in 2016”) She wants girls to stop the hate. Lilly Singh also explains to us how we are powerful women.

In class, we have read a variety of books that deal with race and identity issues. One of the books that associates with the same issue were Anaya’s Ghost by Vera Brosgol. The main character, Anaya is a girl who was judged by other girls on the way she was dressed and how to look like too. Throughout the book, she tries to change the way she looks like the rest of the girls to be noticed by a guy. There is another girl who was surprised about Anaya’s new look and jealous when her boyfriend notices Anaya.
