Identity In Maddy's Autobiography

Improved Essays
One of the biggest themes in this story is that of identity. Maddy feels she is defined by her sickness; it is the only thing she has ever known until Olly comes into her life. We get to follow along with her as she tries to discover who she is. She missed many opportunities because of her mom, but now she can start taking the new opportunities life gives her. She has to go from the sick girl to the free girl, so now she is not sure who she is. Another theme is love and if it is worth the risk. She takes the risk of falling in love with Olly even though he could break her heart, and she takes the risk of going outside for him even though she could die. She tries to fight her feelings in the beginning because she knows there is nothing she

Another common theme is that the main character in these stories don't really have parents. There might be a parent in the story but that parent isn't raising their kids. One major theme from this book was that the main character had a tough life and had a rough background. Despite this, he ended up being alright. The book appealed to me more in an emotional way than a logical way.…

Director’s Concept of Joe Turner’s Come and Gone Joe Turner’s Come and Gone was written by American playwright August Wilson. The play is set in 1911, in a boardinghouse Pittsburgh and tells the story of African American struggles in a post-civil war environment. Themes There are several themes to highlight throughout the play with the central theme being resolve. Each one of the characters in this play is determined to achieve or maintain something; for example, Seth Holly is the owner of the boardinghouse and he is always stressing the respectful and proper reputation his home has always enjoyed. The first theme is to embrace new things, because it could end up changing your life for the better. America said, “The Selection was no longer something that was simply happening to me, but something I was actively a part of.” This supports the theme because she is taking advantage of her situation and enjoying her time in the palace. The second theme is to not judge someone until you get to know them. America called Maxon shallow when she first met him accidentally because she was angry she was stuck in the palace.…

    Symbolism In Fangirl

Growing up is extremely nerve-wracking, as explained in Fangirl, by Rainbow Rowell. The novel, Fangirl, could have been better written if the author had used words other than foul language. Excluding that minor flaw, I think the novel portrays the life of Cath, an 18-year-old introvert, and Wren, Cath's sister, very well. I believe one of the themes in Fangirl is the way people come of age and the struggles one goes through to get there. Rowell expresses the theme by using symbolism, conflicts, and setting.…

Out of the five clues to theme, the most relevant ones to this text are the conflict and solution, what the main character learns, and the stories symbolism. In the story Marigolds, there is an extremely important overarching theme that is still very relevant today. Conflict and solution are a huge clue as to what the theme of the story is. Choose at least one theme that recurs throughout the story and one specific example: The overall theme of Looking for Alaska is death. This theme is the main theme in the book because this is what the novel revolves around. Even before the actual death occurs, death is a recurring theme, from Alaska’s mother’s death, to Miles’ trying to find out what happens when you die. Alaska is a character in the book that is fully associated with the theme of death. It has played an important role in her life.…

The theme that stuck out to me was, "Life may not be leading you on the path you planned. But, in life, it is okay to take a detour." The first book that I will be comparing the theme to is Fangirl. The theme of taking a detour really relates to this story considering it is all it ever goes on about. For Cath, her life was all set and based – go to a great college, pass Professor Piper’s Fiction-Writing Class, and have no interferences along the way.…

Nicholas Sparks demonstrates the theme of forgiveness throughout the novel, making it a reoccurring theme. Forgiveness is shown through four main characters Ronnie, Jonah, Steve and Will. Ronnie Miller is a teenager girl who has not spoken to her father since he left three years ago. When Ronnie gets sent to his house for the summer she makes minimal conversation with her dad spending most of her time out of the house.…

The theme for this song is mainly about how strong the character’s connection is and how you can show love in many ways. For example, when the characters sing this line “even a thousand miles can’t keep us apart.” This shows they have a very special connection for each other. Another great line that shows us they have a special connection is “Let it rain, let it pour, what we have is worth fighting for.” With just those two excerpts from the song you can see their connection.…

“I rather stand with God and be judged by the world than stand with the world and be judged by God.” This is a line from the movie said by Grace Wesley, which I think summarizes who she is completely. By examining God’s Not Dead 2, we can see Grace, a young teacher, stand by her faith even in one of the toughest situations. This is important because it can encourage the viewers to stand by what they believe even when times get rough.…
