After the patient’s personal information was obtained Guzman and her accomplice Woods proceeded to open up multiple lines of credit and making multiple purchases in the Capital Region. Suzette Guzman and Emmett Woods pleaded guilty to their participation in the identity theft at Albany Medical Center. Woods was charged with (1) count of Scheme to Defraud in the first degree, (1) count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the second degree (both felonies) and will face 7.5-15 years in state prison. Guzman-Moore was charged with: (3) counts of Identity in the second degree, (1) Count of Scheme to Defraud in the first degree (all Class E Felonies) and will face 5-15 years in state prison. Obviously, dumbfounding to ponder that one must be on guard to identity theft when receiving medical attention, these victims were victimized at one of their greatest vulnerable moments. Suzette Guzman need for financial gain superseded any moral oath taken to become a nurse; it is comforting to know that she will never work in this profession again, but at the same time worrisome to consider that this type of person could enter a nursing …show more content…
Nonetheless, both cases fit the definition of identity theft/fraud. All victims in these two cases will forever be affected by these unfortunate experiences. Despite the emotional stress felt at the onset these situations the record will never fully be deleted from one’s personal history, therefore needing to be proved and explained years down the line. It is challenging to put identity theft/fraud cases behind you for both parties I suppose, however sympathies certainly reside with the
