“It amazes same how easy it is for things to change, how easy it is to start off down the same road you always take and wind up somewhere new”. Before I Fall explores what can happen to you if you turn a blind eye to your true identity and start to change or become a different person. A lot of people change in their life and it can be a positive change, but sometimes people will change in a negative way and forget who they really are.

When I say change, I don’t mean just changing your hair, clothes or your look, because it’s not a bad change. A lot of people will change their hair or style to try new things, but this is not changing in a negative way. In the book Before I Fall, “Sam changes her clothes and style because she’s reliving the same day anyways so she wanted to try something different” (185). Sam’s change of clothes doesn’t make her entirely different, but it is a change in her appearance. Changing your appearance isn’t turning a blind eye to your true identity, it would be more like trying new things and that’s what people do as they grow up. The person on the inside changes and you can’t physically see it, but the people around you will notice it. Some people never realize that they have changed and never change back to who the really are. Some people can turn into bad people, and mean people. While Sam relives her day she started to realize that she has changed over time and it wasn’t in a good way. She started to realize that the things she was doing affected people and she was mean to some of her peers for no reason. The popularity also changed her because that set her mind to think she can have anything and make other people feel bad because they’re not her.
