When carrying out active listening the counsellor should be looking out for the following clues:
• Child’s emotional state
• Child’s intellectual state
• Child’s spiritual state
• Child’s energy levels; for example depressed people have low energy levels
Active listening requires more than just listening to what a child says. It involves taking an interest in the child, making sure they are comfortable about disclosing information and providing support and understanding. It also requires that a counsellor also takes into account the body language that is being displayed, and also the tone,
