Improvement of the phosphorus (P) use efficiency is one of the most imperative traits in rice breeding program, which is governed by quantitative trait loci (QTLs). During the last decade, making use of the diverse mapping populations, QTLs controlling low phosphorus associated morphological and physiological traits in rice were investigated. Comprehensively, the marker assisted selection and advanced genomic technologies have been used to discover QTLs and genes with help of fine mapping and map-based cloning approaches in rice.
