Identific Intelligence: The Characteristics Of Artificial Intelligence

“Siri, what’s the weather outside?” People today ask this question a lot. What they don’t usually think about is how Siri is able to comprehend what they are saying. This is just one way that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is used today. In this example, the phone uses Natural Language Processing (which is a part of AI) to comprehend what the person is saying. The easy means of communication we know today would not be at our disposal without Artificial Intelligence. There are many parts to Artificial Intelligence and it was a long journey for it to become as popular as it is today. Artificial Intelligence (AI) means that a machine is able to take in its surroundings and compute what is happening. It is a computer system that is able to do exactly what humans can do. But, due to the fact that the human brain cannot be manmade, the program used for many of these programs is extremely complex. “The term artificial intelligence was first coined by John McCarthy in 1956 when he held the first academic conference on the subject.” (Smith) Some of the skills that AI has is visual perception, speech recognition, decision making, and translation.
