It all started on March 3rd, 1887. I was about 6 years old when Sullivan came to my small town of Tuscumbia. She was a graduate from Perkins school for the Blind. I want to say she was about 20 years old when she came. Sullivan taught me a lot of things and I remember she started teaching me right away. Sullivan started by teaching me to spell with my fingers. The first word she started with was doll. When Sullivan first started teaching me, I was cooperative, but after a while, I became frustrated and refused to let her teach me. I would pinch, hit, and kick her. I had even knocked out one of her teeth. Eventually I started to warm up to her. By the age of 10, I mastered braille and the alphabet and also how to use the typewriter.
