Ida Skit Analysis

Improved Essays
Once you have spent thirty minutes preparing your IDA skit to the best of your abilities, then the time has come to perform for the judge. If you are performing in a regular round then you will perform in front of one judge. If you are performing in a semi-final or final round then you will perform in front of a panel of three judges. When walking into the room you must remain professional. No matter what antics you will get up to during an IDA skit you need to present a good first impression to the judge as you hand them the ballot or as you write down your information for them. Competitors should also evaluate the judge before beginning the round. You may want to change small aspects of your skit so it will appeal to your judge more if she …show more content…
Indulge the whims of your partner, especially since things may crop up as you perform that you didn't think of, or deal with as you prepared your skit. The best improvisational actors are able to take the things their partner presents and build upon that making them vital and interesting parts of the skit. Once, I was playing a baseball player who had been injured and was delirious with pain and I was trying to hook up with Taylor's character in an ambulance. Out of the blue, I decide to propose, "Will you do me the honor of being my baseball player's wife?" I asked her. She was shocked because I had never done that when we had practiced our skit in the prep room. Her reaction was 100% real and she ran with it and it provided the extra aspect to our skit that caused us to win the round. It was that win that helped us qualify for the state competition. After performing your skit, pause for a moment, and then tell your judge thank you. Judges are often volunteers from the community where the meet is held and they don’t have to give up a portion of their Saturday to judge forensics students and provide them with valuable feedback. Judges appreciate being told thank you. After thanking your judge leave the room. You have now completed one round of IDA. The cycle of creating an IDA skit is repeated two to three more times at the meet depending on if you break into finals or

I personally benefited from the improvisation exercises we did in my drama class. I learned a lot from observing others’ failures. It was common for my classmates to try to “strategize” the scene, thinking it was something they could control, ignoring the fact that they were not the only persons on the stage. When their scene mates would go off the script only they were reading, I could see it in their faces that they lost their character and no longer knew what to do or say, ruining the scene. When it was my turn to go on stage, I would stay on my toes and adapt to the characters who surrounded me, creating a scene worth watching.…

We all have heard colleges telling applicants that they approach each and every application holistically because they want to get to know each potential incoming student as a whole. It is easy to find comfort in that but we all know it is only true for certain colleges and certain groups of people. Groups of people such as really rich white’s who have the wealth to donate great amount of fortune to a college and bribe them into acceptances. In my Satire Skit, I am mocking the wealthy white’s that do not deserve to be accepted to any higher education Institution but because the world runs on money, they are perfect in the eyes of many.…

Initially I started this assignment by carefully reviewing over the worksheet given to me before the in-class assignment. The assignment was to create a scene with “silent tension” and to incorporate several elements such as a moment of pause. Even though I might not have to direct the scene, I started to think in a sense of how a director might approach this assignment and create a scene. I started to reference the “dead theatre” essay written by Peter Brook. I wanted to create a scene that the audience could emotionally and spiritually relate to.…

Taking a modern view on traditional values, the play Big Love by Charles L. Mee integrates various views on love and how love relates to gender roles. The University of Texas at Dallas, under the direction of Shelby-Allison Hibbs, performed Big Love for two weekends in October 2015. The story takes place in an Italian villa off the coast, where three brides have just gotten off a boat from Greece to seek refuge. The brides, fifty total, fled to avoid marrying their fifty cousins in an arranged marriage agreement made by their ancestors. The play mainly focuses on three brides and their groom counterparts; each represents a different view on love.…

The large speakers that surround the filled room begin to vibrate as the loud unknown voice begins to announce my name. I now know that it is my time to shine. While standing behind the long, red curtains I begin to do what comes natural; lifting my head as if I am looking above and beyond the ceiling that lies above me with a smile projecting from my face, standing tall with strong energy from my toes to the tips of my fingers and pushing my shoulders back to respectfully greet my judges. The adrenaline pounds in my chest, but confidence over powers and I am nothing but ready to entertain my audience. The strongest improv rule I did was keeping everything going throughout the whole entire process, trying to build off of everyone else’s idea. Through Conducted Story to Mr. Know-It-All I did my utmost best to make every sentence make sense and if it suddenly changed, go off of someone else’s emotions, and idea of a story. In Mr. Know-It-All most of our sentences made no sentences, I attempted to make sense of them and roll off of their ideas, when Mark would say the weirdest word that did not even make sense, it would morph the whole sentence into something else while I have this idea rolling off of the other sentence. In Conducted Story with the City Under the Waters, it was a weird story, and I was absolutely clueless on how to build…

When I entered the courtroom, the previous case was just beginning to conclude. I was very surprised at the routine nature of the hearings; defendants and legal advisors seemed to cycle in and out of the room and the benches, with little disruption. Unlike some television programs that depict major celebrations or periods of despair following a verdict/hearing, I found the process of going through cases to be fairly nondescript. Defendants were…
