Either kill someone you do not know or do nothing and get no money. You stand in your kitchen eyeing the item across the room. There on the table sits a small box with a shiny red button on the top. You continue to stare. Either push the button and receive a million dollars and kill someone or do not push it and nothing will change. The logical choice would be to not to push the button, nothing would change and no one would be hurt. On the other hand, what if you needed the money? Then the emotional response would be to push the button.

The left side of the brain “is responsible for rational thought processing, logical sequencing, and analytical considerations” (Sarah Lipoff). Those who are left brain dominant are usually very rational when it comes to making decisions and are less likely to be emotionally driven. Some people find that being more influenced by logical aspects rather than emotional is a good attribute. This logical thinking is called utilitarian morality. Utilitarian morality definitely has its supporters, many believe that this way of thinking is “more reliable” and defines “more completely” what is best (Alexandra Raeber). They would be able to see that they need the money and the person who would die could possibly be old and almost done with life. On the other hand they also could see that if they do not push the button there would be no consequence and no changes. Since the right brain can be emotionally driven, they would see not just what they want for their family, but what their family needs.
An example of being emotionally driven is shown in the story Mars Is Heaven! In the beginning Captain Black is questioning the perfectness of the foreign world because something seems out of place. Soon lost loved ones begin to enter the story and the crew becomes hypnotized by the presence of those they cared about, but not Captain Black. As the story continues, the disguised Martians try to convince the Captain to relax and not “question why (they’re) here, enjoy it” (Bradbury), but it doesn’t
