Icon By Scott Mccloud Analysis

Everyday people make decisions. These decisions can be based off of how we are feeling. These decisions can lead us down the path of sadness or the path of happiness. Taking these paths set us up for the future. In the picture that I have chosen, I can use Scott McCloud’s idea of “Icon” to describe myself. Everyone experiences good days and bad. In the picture the mountains mean happiness. They are seen as standing tall and confident. They mean happiness to me because on good days I feel “Up”. On the opposite side of things we have the valley. To me the valley represents sadness or feeling down. It represents sadness because the valley is literally down under the mountains. Happiness and sadness are emotions. “We assign identities and emotion …show more content…
These choices lead us through our paths in life. In the picture of the valley, the river can be seen as a calm and a go with the flow path where everything is easy. But this path does not always lead to happiness as shown since it stays down lower in the valley. What this means is that taking the easy way is not always the best option because it does not get you where you want to go. At times I take this path, just to get through whatever it is that I am doing. But in doing so I do not get the satisfaction of working for something better and bettering myself. Another path that is seen is the steep jagged dirt path going up the hill. This represents struggles and hardship, but it leads to happiness. This is saying that sometimes the harder paths lead to happiness. An example of this jagged and hard path would be this summer for the football team and I. We woke up everyday early in the morning to go to weights. Then after we would have two a days in the blistering hot summer, but look where that got us. At the time of me writing this paper we are three and zero. This hasn’t happened since 1999. Since we took the hard path of summer practise it got us to happiness of accomplishing something not done in over sixteen years. Though this is all a matter of perspective. “The face you see in your mind is not the same as others see.” (McCloud) The face being the picture of the valley. What McCloud is saying here is that to other people this is just a picture …show more content…
This mountain to me represents the future. This mountain represents the future because I know it is there but, I don’t know what it holds or how I will get there. I don’t know how I will get there because their is no paths leading up to it unlike the mountains in the foreground. Also as you look farther back you will notice a thin layer of fog over the mountains. This fog represents the unsureness of the future. This is true because I really do not know what the future will bring for me. Though I know that I will have a future but I do not really have an idea of how I am going to get there. I do know that the decisions that I make today will add up and lead to whatever future that I am creating for myself, as seen by the paths fading away into the background. This is an example of how what decisions that I make today will add up to my future. For example, today during during weight room I added a little bit of extra weight to each set. Making it harder for me at the time, but I will be stronger in the long run. In this instance I would be taking the jagged path. But later when I am stronger I will be on top of the valley with the satisfaction of becoming stronger and knowing that my decision led to a better

For this radical revision, I decide I wanted to do something unique, and from what I have seen, mine is the only one of its kind in the class. At first, I had considered creating a series of drawings that depicted how uncertainties affected an individual, but after having an internal debate with myself. I decided to create one drawing with an erasure poem that narrated what was going through a person's head, but at the same time, the narrator would be the individual going through this situation from an outside view. I also had considered just making an erasure poem by itself, but I went against it because I thought that was too simple and I would also not get a good grade due to the lack of effort. Hence, after deciding what I was going to do I created a rough draft to take to the peer review session so I could get a second opinion, and after hearing what my classmates had to say they reassured me that I was on the right path.…
