Ice Hockey Case Study

The end of the 19th century was just the beginning for hockey prominence. During the inaugural season of the Canadian Amateur Hockey League (CAHL), two teams answered challenges and helped the league to retain the Stanley Cup in its first season. One of those challenges came from Queen’s University on March 14, 1899.

Two teams from Montreal skated for The Cup just 10 days before the Shamrocks would make the final defense of the 1899 season. The Victorias had passed Cup honors over to the Shamrocks on the 4th of March.

However, a confident Queen’s University team visited Montreal Arena with an eye on the most coveted trophy in hockey. Although a strong team defensively, the squad from Kingston, Ontario proved no match for the skilled Montreal
