Ice Cube Inquiry The purpose of this lab was to create an experiment to find the heat of fusion, the amount of joules(energy) needed to change water from solid to liquid and vice versa. My team found that heat lost is equal to heat gain. To find the heat of fusion we must first find the heat released by the water. To do this I used the q=mc(triangle)t equation. Through my experiment I found that the mass of the water was 159.01, the specific heat capacity or the amount heat required to raise 1 gram of something by 1 degree to be 4.18, and the temperature change between the starting temperature of water to the end when ice was added was 8.
