Ice Cream Stand Simulation

Improved Essays
1. I think this would be a great entry level introduction to the basics of economics. This lesson can be taught in a 6th or 7th grade class. This lesson uses an ice cream stand simulation to teach the concepts of supply and demand. Since the lesson focuses around an ice cream stand simulation it creates a fun engaging activity to get the kids involved (I mean who doesn’t love ice cream)! The students are given the opportunity to create their own small business which I think is awesome. I think this lesson can be used in a history class or in a life skills class. I know my school had a basic life skills class (it was an elective class but not strictly economics) where you learned about money management, how to do your laundry, cook basic foods

The river simulation was an excellent way to introduce one to civics. One will have an idea and a better understanding of how the government and people work and how the roles and decisions can be vital in order to sustain a village or country. The simulation could have a little more time in the diplomacy phase so decisions can be made more…

My favorite lesson/topic I learned this year was about cannibalism, Jamestown and Disney’s inaccurate movies. I liked learning about Jamestown because when the settlers ran out of food, they ate each other. I also liked learning about this because we got to play Minecraft and build our own little Jamestown. I enjoyed learning about cannibalism in general because I liked seeing Jaylens reaction about everything, and because it was just fun to learn about in general. If someone does cannibalism or “Biggest Fails in History” for ROWVA Chill I'm definitely taking that class.…

Paper Plate Fractions: The Counting Connection by Ann McCoy, Joan Barnett, and Tammy Stine was an article that I had enjoyed reading. There were a variety of important ideas that I had learned from reading this article. To me, I believed that the most important idea was an activity that was designed to help third graders organize their thinking about rational number notation by connecting to a well-established, whole number routines. Other important ideas about the content that I have learned are fractions, iterations, and the mathematical teaching practices.…

It would enhance the class by giving them a visual and fun way to learn about Pawnee Bill. The exhibits in the museum were both informative and attractive. I had so much fun walking through the museum and learning about not only Pawnee Bill, but also Buffalo Bill, Annie Oakley, the Wild West shows, how ranches operated, the tools that were used by the people that lived and worked there. There was a small version of what the Wild West show would have looked like during one of their busiest times, and it really put into perspective what the ranch would have looked like at the time, filled with tents, wagons, and horses.…

As a traveling teacher librarian I definitely want my students to look forward to their time with me. I am only in their classes every six weeks, for one or two lessons, so engagement is a big part of my planning. I spend time trying to get to know them through surveying their reading habits and classroom discussion. Additionally I have done different “icebreaker” activities so that I can get to know them and they can get to know me. They love playing 2 truths and a lie.…

From the moment Mrs. Grier’s preschool room is entered on February 19th the theme is evident. The reading nook is filled with presidential books (some borrowed from the library), the math center is money themed and the walls are adorned with Abraham Lincoln wall cabins. Students file in as normal, moving their pictures from the “home” board to the “school” board, putting away their belongings, and then sitting down for breakfast. When the timer rings and their spaces are cleared they meet at the rug for circle time. A ballot box is brought out-…

The line between teaching history and current events is often blurred with in the field of Social Studies, but every four years comes the Presidential Election. This is a current event that cannot be ignored given the amount of media attention and personal debates that occur from the national election. Given these facts it seems virtually impossible to ignore the on going election within school classrooms. After reading Students learn about candidates, issues, civics it is clear that many different approaches are used to inform students about the presidential election, if the election is even discussed with in the classroom. The methods used for teaching the presidential election varies across grade levels, some lessons are multidisciplinary,…

Another teaching lesson I found was how Little would use the break in between the semesters to go over what they had studied in the past few months. This is a very good teaching method because sometimes some students might need to refresh their mind on what they previously learned especially since students learn so much in just one semester. 2) Olivia was a very hard working student and was attached to school because she saw it like a refuge from her own home. At home she would get constant beatings from her mother until she finally got tired of it and left. The only motivation she really had were the complements she would receive from her teachers.…

The economics class has made a different person than I was before taking the course. It has helped me increase my knowledge, skills and thus increasing my human capital. My economics class has been dealing with microeconomics, which focuses on the role consumers and businesses play in the economy, with specific attention paid to how decisions are made. This decisions focus mainly, on how a good or service is purchased by the consumer, the price the consumer pays, and how the price is determined. On purchasing a good the consumer has to make decisions based on different factors and the effects of the product on the consumer.…
