ISU Personal Statement

Growing up near Springfield, I have spent a great deal of time on the ISU campus. My grandma is an alum; my aunt played volleyball for ISU in the 80s and now works in the athletic department; and my cousin is a current presidential scholar. I have visited Illinois State University numerous times. I have even cheered on my high school Rockets in Redbird Arena at state tournaments and attended graduation ceremonies and athletics camps several summers. Being so familiar with the campus makes me excited to attend. I have always felt at home when I am at ISU. The location of the university could not be in a better place with everything I would ever want and need within walking distance. I love the college’s size and proximity to my hometown. ISU is the right fit for me. My educational “end” goal is to become a nurse, and I have heard nothing but praise about ISU’s competitive nursing program. My cousin received her nursing degree from ISU and has done nothing but succeed in her career. Her happiness with her college choice and in her career has always lead me to want to follow in her footsteps. I have high expectations for my future college. I know it will not be easy, but a challenge is always something I look for both …show more content…
My biggest strength is that I spend countless hours a night on my schoolwork. I am a perfectionist who over-prepares. My high school gives students the opportunity to take college courses. To date, I have taken four dual credit class as preparation for my college career. One of my biggest struggles was taking the ACT. Timed tests are my weakness but after being disappointed with my score, I immediately signed up for an “ACT Prep Class” in order to better prepare me for my next ACT test. I retook the ACT this fall and I am proud to say my results went up and my drive to achieve a better ACT score paid

For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to attend North Dakota State University. My dad and sister are NDSU alumni, so furthering my education where they did provides us with a unique bond. Additionally, not many of my relatives attended college, allowing me to see the difficulties in providing for oneself and family without a college degree. Although I know the next seven years are going to be challenging, extremely strenuous, and will push me to the edge of my comfort zone, the satisfaction of administering medical services to those who need them will make it worthwhile. Not only will I be able to care for others with a Pharm.…

I am a first-generation Latina student at The Ohio State University. Being from inner city Toledo, Ohio, I attended a public district where 80% of students received free or reduced lunch and the graduation rate was at an all time low of 49%. My parents had not graduated high school, therefore once college applications became relevant, they unfortunately could not help me. Through 25 different scholarships, I was able to attend OSU without any loans and truly believed I was on the right track to achieving the "American Dream". To my dismay, once classes began, I was lost.…

The strengths that I have acquired through high school are persistence, endurance, and work ethic. In high school I have always been persistent to keep my grade up and made it my goal to be on the honor roll. Freshman year I was able to make it to second honors, which is to have quarter grades no lower than a C. I persisted myself to make it to first honors (no grade lower than a B-). Towards the end of my sophomore year I achieved my goal. I persisted to make it to principal’s list junior and senior year.…

In Novi I wasn't exposed to the amazing diversity of Wayne State's campus!
