In the article posted in BBC NEWS (2017), it was reported that the African known terrorist group called al-Shabaab is allied to al-Qaeda. The word al-Shabaab is an Arabic word meaning youth as is described in the BBC NEWS article. There have been rumors that al-Shabaab also have been linked to other terrorist groups in Africa such as Boko Haram in Nigeria and al-Qaeda in Maghreb. In 2013, it was reported that over 67 people were killed and over 170 were injured in the attack of al-Shabaab at the Westgate Shopping Mall in Nairobi Kenya (Martinez, 3013). Officials reported it to be the worst terror attack ever happened in Kenya. Later al-Shabaab claimed responsibility. Recently, April 2018, al-Shabaab attacked an African Union base in Somalia under African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM), that lead to death of over 22 al-Shabaab members and four Ugandan soldiers, which was reported by Ugandan Army (Reuters, 2018). The term Boko Haram in the Nigerian dialect called Hausa means “Western education is forbidden”. This group was first known by the attack on Police stations in the state of Yobe in Nigeria back in December 2003conducted by about 200 rebels (CNN,2018). Since then, Boko Haram have expanded their targets to states like Bauchi, Borno, Kano, and Yobe. In 2010, they attacked a prison in Bauchi and killed five people and released more than 700 prisoners. They have been attacking prisons, killing police, and also killing civilians in different states. The other tragedy that shocked the whole world and actually got coverage worldwide was the kidnap of more than 270 teenage girls from boarding school in Chibok in Borno (CNN,2018). This attack went viral to social media, that Michelle Obama tweeted her image holding the sign with #BringBackourgirls (McCoy, 2014). As terrorism, attention means a lot.
