ISIS: The Great Terrorist Threat

Superior Essays
ISIS ISIS, the greatest terrorist threat that the world has ever seen, has been able to accomplish what Al-Qaeda and other terrorist groups could only dream of because the group has been able to take large swaths of territory throughout both Iraq and Syria and has also been able to inspire others to their cause in order to further their agenda worldwide. ISIS is a truly grave threat as it still continues to hold around a quarter of Iraq and nearly half of Syria. As the group continues to occupy this territory it manages to destabilize the entire region simply due to its presence. Also, as the group has managed to spread worldwide through the use of propaganda, mostly through the means of social media, it has been able to recruit those willing …show more content…
The U.S. should commit combat troops to fight ISIS because nearly a year and a half of airstrikes has not given the results the U.S. government and military would like, the group has inspired others to join and commit acts of terror worldwide, and also because the terror group has managed to destabilize the entire …show more content…
The only real way to see results in terms of pushing ISIS back would have to be the combined use of both attack aircraft and with eyes and ears on the ground (Islamic State). Even though coalition airstrikes are supporting local ground troops in the area results have not been well as ISIS is still in possession of a large amount of territory. Little gains have been made in terms of territory by local forces due to the simple fact that the U.S. is only willing to continue to commit airstrikes and not ground troops to support local combat troops in their fight against the group (Islamic State). Since progress has clearly not been made, many in the U.S. are now supporting that U.S. ground troops enter both Iraq and Syria to combat the group. A CNN poll taken last December showed that 53% of Americans showed support in U.S. troops going to the Middle Eastern countries (Agiesta, Jennifer). Even presidential candidates have weighed in on the topic, and according to Ohio governor and Republican presidential candidate John Kasich, “Bombings are not enough, we must root them out and destroy them” (Islamic State). Not only has the Islamic State been able to radicalize people in the Middle East, but the group has also been able to radicalize people all

If we take away their territory, they cease to be a caliphate, a tempting argument for the US to intervene in the situation. But, as Wood mentioned in his article ISIS wants the US to invade. That would bolster recruitment and radicalize Muslims worldwide, which is a strong argument against intervention. I strongly believe ISIS may become a victim of its own success. It’s only a matter of time before this mass of poor people with high expectations confronts economic deprivation, discontent, and a reduction in the number of believers immigrating to the…

ISIS is not centered in one specific place; It’s a network of terrorist cells with fanatic followers, that feeds on chaos and makes up a nation. The organization is a part of many troubles in the the Middle East: conflict between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims, refugees stranded by the Syrian civil war, no leaders in Yemen and Libya, Sinai breaking away from Egyptian control, etc. The caliph, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and his troops were able to enter to enter Iraq because no one was willing to stop them. The Sunnis support them because they helped to defend the Sunni communities, and the new ISIS administration hopes to win them over with promises of oil riches and authorization of local units of the national guard. ISIS's goal is to bring the visions of jihadist philosophers to life.…

"The U.S believes that with training, Iraq, Kurdish forces, and moderate Syrian Rebels will be able to take down ISIS."(Von Drehle). The Syrian Rebels have been able to hold onto the town of Kobani, but they aren't gaining any land back. It will involve a lot of training, other countries joining in the fight, and American weapons to remove ISIS without Americans fighting. Airstrikes have been the first step in trying to stop ISIS. "U.S warplanes have dropped more than 8,200 bombs in 2,500 airstrikes dating back to August.…

About one million residents of the Mosul fled their city when the influence of ISIS was involuntary thrusted upon them. Should we send our troops to fight Isis? America is undecided betwixt whether or not to permit the allocation of American boots in Iraq or Syria to fight Isis. This is a war America cannot accomplish on the ground, so why kill our American soldiers when knowing this? Do civilians desire to send troops to simply exterminate fears, which in turn would not be solved by this? It is difficult for Americans to admit the limits of the American military power, yet when discussing war the nation needs to think logically.…

I feel that America should be involved in the fight against Isis because they have planned and gone through attacks on the United States. There have been several cases where the Group that Calls them self “Isis” has planned many attacks against the allies of the United States or on U.S soil its self. So that’s what’s makes me feel that the United States should do something. Transnational terrorism is a type of transnational non-state actor that influences, and has been influenced by globalization and global politics . Terrorism organisations work both on a local and global stage and impact states and their powers on both of these levels . Terrorist organisations are not something that is often compared to NGOs, but they do operate in the same manner in which they interact with both states as well as their relevant populations and institutions, except they usually do this through violence and planned attacks. Like NGOs, these transnational terrorist groups hold great power and are able to influence the international relations between and within states. These transnational terrorists aim to project their own religious agenda on society.…

ISIS wants a ground war and I believe we will eventually give it to them. In the constructivism perception, the United States government has learned from its past mistakes that a war can solve solutions, but also make situations worse. A war is needed when a state is doing morally unjust things, but not when it is not an unwinnable war. If this was a circumstance like Vietnam War, war would not be the best option because the United States were never going to win that war, but it is not. Therefore, responding in a war may actually be the greatest decision to make, because ISIS has a harsh perspective on the U.S., and needs to be put to a stop because they will not back down.…
