ISIS Compare And Contrast Essay

The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) has a structure quite similar to the old Ottoman Empire, in that the Ottomans and ISIS both have its caliphate foundation. In another example, the Ottoman Empire started to grow when the Western powers began to decline. The modern day ISIS also grows larger and stronger, and though their power may not grow as much as the Ottomans did, the Eastern identity increased when the Western powers ever so slightly lagged to enforce power. Furthermore, a key characteristic between them both though is expansion through forceful conquest. Both empires inhumanely and violently expanded their forces through murdering others and through war. There are also contrasting differences: the Ottoman Empire accepted many different religions, nationalities, and ethnic groups into their territory. The Ottomans understood that a minimum of understanding and tolerance of everyone was needed for unification, however, this is something we do not observe in ISIS. Though many were prosecuted and there were many injustices, It had a reputation for tolerance. In contrast, the violent and barbaric Islams now running riot in Iraq and Syria have been destroying graves, crosses and executing anyone that is a non-Sunni. To summarize, though, with the same general Islamic belief, these two groups would not cooperate at all when it came to running an empire. This being said, the war and terror ISIS is spreading will most likely not last(as long as the Ottoman Empire at least), and may be the downfall of their entire Islamic State. Admittedly the ideas they have propagated and evolved will live on, and may the base of a new group in future time, just as ISIS is based on emulating the early leaders of
