Reflective Essay On Pharmacy

IPPE 1 Reflection My IPPE 1 experience went relatively well. Already having worked in a community pharmacy setting, I knew what to expect and felt that there really was little to gain. Going into the rotation, I was somewhat bitter that I would be losing 3 weeks of my time to work in a setting I already have been working in. By the end of the rotation however, I did end up gaining at least some valuable experience and insight that I did not receive in my previous work experience. In this reflection, I will discuss some of my experiences at my rotation site and some of the learning gaps that I was able address in my pre-rotation learning plan. In my pre-rotational learning plan, I listed 5 gaps. The first gap was to envision the future state of the pharmacy profession. Fortunately for me, the pharmacy I worked at was innovative and involved in some clinical services. It was reassuring to see the expansion of clinical services pharmacists can offer in practice. Before my rotation, I was only lectured about an increasing clinical role but was never able to witness it. It was especially nice to see what we are taught in our pharmacy practice and ABLE lab courses being put to use. Pharmacy is undergoing a lot of change and our roles are expanding. What I used to think about retail before my rotation is drastically different than I what think about it now. I used to feel as if our only role in retail was dispensing medications but, now I see how wrong I was. We are able to offer our patients much more than just a place to fill a prescription. We can offer patients more options for therapy, work with prescribers to provide optimal patient outcomes, help patients manage their medications, administer flu shots, and provide other clinical
