IKEA follows the IWAY code of conduct. IWAY stands for IKEA’s way of doing anything within its business, from selling furniture to preventing child labour. IKEA’s code of conduct specifies minimum requirements concerning protection of the environment, working conditions and child labour that they place on their supplies and describes what they get in return. In 1968, IKEA started to use particle board to build their furniture. Particle board is an expensive, hard-wearing, and easy to process material. Particle board is created by placing wood chips, fibers or even small scraps of wood under intense pressure with glue. This produces a hard, flat material. In 1990, IKEA developed its first environmental policy. This policy called the company and its co-workers to take environmental responsibility for all activities conducted within its business. IKEA only accepts wood from high conservation value forests or intact natural forests if they are verified as well managed. IKEA has special projects in areas such as China and Russia to help increase the amount of certified forests and improve the standards of forest management. They have also partnered with WWF, the global conservation organization to take action against illegal logging. In 2005, IKEA with WWF worked on a better method for cotton cultivation. The program encourages farmers in Pakistan and India to adopt more sustainable cultivation practices and be a good example for others in the region. In 1993, the IKEA group became a part of the Forest Stewardship Council FSC. FSC is a global, non-profit organization dedicated to promoting responsible forest management. IKEA has also invested in renewable energy in the UK. They have helped make a wind farm in Huntly, Aberdeenshire in Northern Scotland. An IKEA store in Stoughton, USA has
