When Bianca is first introduced, she is shown to be Katherine’s irreproachable and pure younger sister. Katherine’s treatment of Bianca is considered to be abusive, and everyone views Bianca as being the victim. Katherine chains Bianca up and Baptista immediately becomes enraged, saying “Poor girl, she weeps!” (IIi, 25) After first reading this scene, I also viewed Bianca with pity and thought of her her as being a morally righteous yet unlucky person. Katherine seemed malicious in her actions. As the story continues, however, my opinion of Bianca began to change. In IIIi, Bianca first begins to exert her power in a more obvious way. At her private lessons, it becomes clear to Bianca that her teachers are trying to court her. She is fully aware …show more content…
He should have dark hair and be fairly tall. Lucentio should carry himself proudly, considering that his character is fairly confident that he will be able to woo Bianca. Bianca should be in the same age range as Lucentio. She should be petite, with good posture. This helps to show that she is dainty and cute but in no way submissive. Hortensio, by contrast, should look older and less confident. He should be played by a moustachioed man in his mid-50s with a hooked nose. He should be slightly hunched over to suggest both age and desperation. When Lucentio and Bianca are speaking, Hortensio should be tuning his instrument alone, completely oblivious to what they are saying. Meanwhile, Lucentio and Bianca should lean towards each other as they talk. Lucentio should speak with a strong voice while Bianca speaks with a small smile on her face. Whenever Hortensio approaches Bianca, Bianca should lean closer to Lucentio to give the sense that she has already made her choice. When Hortensio and Bianca talk, Lucentio should move aside but not be as isolated as Hortensio was. Bianca should keep some distance from Hortensio, not leaning inward but rather keeping her back straight to express dominance. Hortensio’s voice should be somewhat shaky in order to suggest that he is physically and mentally weak. Bianca’s voice should always stay clear and level. The scene has some humorous moments, but only at the expense of

The hero of the novel is both, Kelley, and Adam. No one else, reasons are, is Kelley first of the two, this girl held the fort down and she did it well, unlike anyone else I’m sure. Kelley took care of the kids and the house, and she also kept her cool when her husband is away overseas fighting in the war. That’s quite amazing. Speaking of him he is also the hero because he was able to come back and be normal to his kids and Kelley and he was also a hero for showing the little kids at villages what a good person was, they probably loved every second they had with Adam.…

My mother always tells me, “thoughts become things.” I’m not sure if she tells me this as a parent, or as an AP Psychology teacher, but those words rang true in relation to the performance of Kiss Me Kate. To me, this saying illustrates how one thing can manifest or hold true in another way. In other words, how what someone thinks or believes in their mind, becomes clear on the outside or even in reality. For example, if you were to flood your mind with negative thoughts about what you couldn’t do, you wouldn’t accomplish very much; only a positive mindset will help someone achieve his or her goal.…

The shortness in his demand, “get you in”, illustrates that he feels as though there is no need to give Bianca an explanation on why she should do what he says; he knows that with her being both a woman and his good daughter, she will blindly follow his commands. Moreover, he feels as though he can tell her how to feel and how not to feel, because Bianca displays such obedience. However, when Bianca does not act docile and obedient like society wants her to, she is shamed. When Lucentio is angry that Bianca does not respond to his request, Bianca continues to enrage him and says “Fie, what a foolish duty call you this? ” (V. i. 134) Lucentio then responds “I would your duty were as foolish too; The wisdom of your duty, fair Bianca, Hath cost me a hundred crowns…
