Throughout my course IDS 240 Foundations of Lifelong Learning, I have gained a variety of new insights that will forever change my values and ideals of who I am in this world. In learning various theories, including Strengths, spiritual gifts, and different personality inventories, I have gained an extended amount of clarity in the search for my vocational calling. Although at times I felt a sense of confusion when learning the 3 Facets and reading the first two chapters of the Palmer Parker textbook, there is no doubt in my mind that I will be able to overcome my casted doubt toward my self-image and life aspiration’s. I came to the discovery of these two spiritual gifts after completing the Spiritual Gift Survey. Leadership and administration are the two spiritual gifts that appeared to be my strongest in the survey with many others closely following. While leadership has always been in my nature, it was special to connect this trait to what could potentially be my own spiritual gift from God. “It’s remarkable how you can deepen your relationship with God as you uncover and live out the spiritual gifts he’s bestowed on you” (Ortberg, 2007).
Spiritual growth can have a variety of special meanings from one person to the next, and in the article, Defining Spiritual Growth, the author shares with readers, “Spiritual growth is primarily an internal, personal, and experimental phenomenon, by focusing on the cognitive processes or stages through which such growth takes place;” meaning, spiritual growth is a lifetime journey and each step you move forward in your walk with God the stronger understanding you will grasp to your very own spiritual gifts and …show more content…
An understanding of vocation is defined as, “discovering one’s identity, understanding the world, and discerning one’s purpose in relation to God’s will” (Feenstra, 2008). While I am still young and learning the entirety of the concept of vocation, I believe it is important for me personally to explore, participate, and engage in different opportunities as a starting point in my vocational journey. In the article, Christian Vocation: Defining Relations with Identity Status, the author has shared a specific term known as “emerging adulthood” which is a perfect representation of where I stand in my life today. Emerging adulthood refers to “a time period, allowing young adults to explore the world around them, decipher the possibilities in life and engage in a variety of activities and events in an effort to determine who they are.” As a college student at a Christian centered college, I am intrigued to dig deeper and explore to determine who I am. I must also consider throughout my exploration that God doesn’t have just one thing I am bound to do forever; instead he has intentions for me personally to establish a defining purpose or reason for being. With this, I can serve these traits and be a blessing wherever I
