Moving from Chicago to Arkansas, five years ago to raise her family and to attend school was a big leap of faith for Mary,. In our first group activity, as we were introducing ourselves, Mary said something that automatically caught my attention while listening to her speak about herself, “I’m from Chicago”, I knew from this statement alone we were going to be friends, simply because Chicago is such a laid back place; therefore showing just how relaxed this interview would be.

Saving lives is also a main reason for Mary setting out to earn her degree. “You have to have a strong stomach, and that’s something I’ve got”. This was one of the first things Mary said while talking about her degree and why it’s something she knows she’s the perfect fit for. When asking if Mary was willing to locate she eagerly said yes! Seven years is the goal Mary has set for herself when it comes to relocating. Mary has her sights set on many goals in her life, but earning her degree along with setting an outstanding example for her children are at the top of her list. Not to mention being able to watch her succeed throughout her journey in the surgical nursing field, and see how our friendship grows, is definitely exciting. Ordinarily, this type of essay would make some students nervous, however, that was not the case, and it is with great appreciation that Mary was easy going and willing to let a fellow classmate and a virtual stranger interview her, and ask intimate questions. Moreover, it no longer feels that way, it feels like have we known one another for most of our lives.
