2. While in college, I have taken two classes that fit into the “social studies” category. The two classes were History 101 and History 102. I would say that I gained a lot of knowledge in those classes that can be passed down to my future students. I would also say that I don’t know the information well enough to feel completely confident teaching it to a class. From the article “Common Core and the End of History”, I was really surprised at how the state had pretty much removed all of social studies related topics, along with standardized testing for social studies. It made me upset to know that states are getting rid of social studies and replacing them with “tech courses”, to get more money in their budgets by increasing graduation rates and the amount of kids getting accepted into college (Singer, 2014). I do not understand why this is being done. I feel like English and math are very important while in school, but I feel like social studies is important both in school and for everyday life. Without being taught social studies, how will the next generation be able to be productive members of
