Friends begins with five characters sitting in a coffee shop talking about each of their days. They continued talking about their friendships and romances for a decade. The sitcom comedy about six “twenty-something’s” living in New York City ran on the National Broadcasting Company’s (NBC) prime-time schedule for 236 episodes over 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004 (Bright, Kauffman, & Crane, 2012). Viewers learned about the relationships among Monica Geller, Rachel Green, Phoebe Buffay, Joey Tribbiani, Chandler Bing, and Ross Geller, as they discussed their triumphs and disappointments over countless cups of coffee. And it’s about friendship because when you’re single and in the city, your friends are your family” (Lauer, 2011). The relationships among the characters change during the time the series was on the air. Ross’ failures at marriage became a central theme of the show. Ross and Rachel’s relationship is also a central theme. Ross had a crush on Rachel in high school, then during season two they dated, then season 4 Ross got married to another woman however, that ended when Ross said the wrong name during his wedding. Then in season 8 Ross and Rachel become parents to a baby girl; Emma. Eventually Ross and Rachel rekindled their relationship during the series finale. Next you have Monica and Chandler, they started as a one-night drunk hook up but eventually ended up getting married. Then Phoebe has a lot of trouble finding the right person, eventually ends up with Mike in season 10. The only person throughout the show who doesn’t end up with someone is
