The Iraq War began on March 19, 2003 because it was believed that the dictator Saddam Hussein was on the verge of creating, or had created a weapon of mass destruction, and to free the people of Iraq from their dictator . The Iraq War was only supposed to be an invasion to take down the dictator, but it developed in to a full fledged conflict even though the President declared the end of major combat operations on May 1 2003 . The American public supported this war as it was only two years after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center that shook the United States and the world to its core. This war was part of the President’s promise to combat terror in the Middle East which was sparked after the 9/11 attacks ; as well one major contributing force to continue the Iraq War was the terrorist group Al Qaeda which was responsible for the 9/11 attack. As well one major thing that happened in the Iraq War was that the Iraqi guerrilla forces, which came after the Iraqi military surrendered, would play on the morality of the American soldiers by using women and children as human shields so that the Americans could not shoot them .
