Communication is like breathing. It is always a necessity. When breathing is lost, so are you. “I Will Always Write Back” is a book written by authors Caitlin Alifrenka, Martin Ganda, and Liz Welch. Caitlin Stoicsitz and Martin Ganda are pen pals. They met each other through an assignment in their classes to send a letter to someone in another country. They continue to write to each other, and Caitlin learns that Martin lives in Zimbabwe and his family does not have as much money. Communication can lead to change by experiencing and meeting new people. In the fifth letter, Caitlin learns that his family does not have a livable amount of money. The nlnlnlnlnlnln Caitlin has built a bond with Martin. She has started to feel compassion for him. She has formed a new relationship and wants to help him. Martin had sent pictures of his family. Caitlin was concerned because his house consisted of only one room. Caitlin is concerned, ”The photos weren't what I expected. Yes, Martin was the same smiling person I had grown to love, like my own brother. In these images, he looked like a grown-up version of that little boy. ” ( Alifirenka et al. 215). The's' of the's'. Caitlin had communicated with Martin for a while but had a picture in her head. Their house is smaller than she thought. They do not have much money, and Caitlin starts to realize that. Caitlin learns more about their house when she reads,” I studied the shot of Martin sitting between his parents on a bed in a dark, cramped room with all his siblings gathered around. Caitlin wants to talk to Martin, so she sends this letter, ”The terrorist attacks affected every American. But our country is so great because we are stuck together in this time of need. We stand behind our government and trust that the terrorists will be brought to justice.”(Alifirenka et al. 287). The 'Standard' is a 'Standard'. Caitlin tells Martin how she feels after 9/11. She built a trustworthy relationship so that they could be open. Caitlin gives Martin new information as well by communicating. Martin writes to Caitlin about 9/11,” I am so sorry for the terrorist activities that rocked America and led to the loss of innocent lives. We Zimbabweans join you in this period of sorrow.”(Alifirenka et al. 285). The 'Standard' is a 'Standard'. Martin understands how Caitlin feels after 9/11. He was not there, but Martin felt connected to her family. Communication is crucial to learning and making new connections. Caitlin learned that Martin has to wear a uniform because he owns a few shirts. Martin opens up to Caitlin, and she has a lot of concerns about how he is surviving and what he needs help with.
