I still had to ride a school bus, but now I had to get up even earlier due to the distance of the school to my home. Riding the school bus with all new students to a different school was an adventure in itself. Since I was a small kid until my junior year in high school I was always subject to bullies who would pick on me, including when I rode on the bus. This junior high school was much larger than I anticipated, and I was swallowed up in the overcrowded mass of students that attended. I had a hard time getting used to running from one side of the school to the other just to make it to class in time, but I soon learned all the shortcuts. At this school I was exposed to all kinds of crazy students with their various fads and cliques. I became somewhat of a friend to student who was much bigger than me, and I enjoyed hanging around him until the day he showed me a loaded .38 pistol that he had kept in his back pack. I was never so humiliated in all my years of school, but I had nobody to blame but myself. I sat down and could feel all the eyes in the room staring at me and could hear laughter from many of the students who I thought were my friends. Needless to say my day was ruined and I went home with the feeling of being the ultimate failure in school. The next day I found the courage to apologize to the teacher and told him I was truly sorry for my stupid action. I made it a point from that day forward to never cheat in school again. I learned that if I would just study a lot harder for all my classes for the remainder of the year I would be able to pass any test and finish the eighth grade, which I
