The 2005 Commencement Address at Stanford University written and spoken by Steve Job’s was a speech about the things he’d learn when being close to death and the things he valued in life after that. He delivered the speech describing that his near death experience taught him the importance of his life and made him learn to take more risks. He advocated that life is too short to turn down opportunities because it is a risk factor in life. We should always have the mentality of “What would I do if today was my last day on Earth?” to motivate us to do things we’ve never thought of doing because we believe about when exactly we are going to die.
I do agree with Steve Jobs’s statement because we should all have that mindset to keep us going everyday

To die, to sleep- no more- and by a sleep to say we end the heartache, and the thousand natural shocks that flesh is heir to.” (Shakespeare, line 5-8) He had just lost the love of his life and his own father. He thought not having them was not worth living anymore because their presents are no longer with him. He asked if taking his life would take all suffering away and make it easier for him. In the soliloquy, he neglected to consider what effect his life had on his family and friends. Everyone whether they realize it or not, has some kind of effect on the people around them. Hamlet thought of his own life as worthless and thought everyone else did too.
Personally for me, what makes me keep going is the reward of Heaven. I practice Christianity and I believe in all the pain and suffering that I go through in this life will all pass us and I will spend eternity in bliss and happiness. So when I die, I go to Heaven and I will not suffer anymore. I know when I die I will no longer feel sorrow or stress. Every time I am go through a tough time in my life, I tell myself that it is only temporary and I have an eternity of happiness and waiting for me making life more precious and valuable to

For example, after the tragedies of September 11, 2002, the federal government started a federal fund to give the victims and families of victims of the attacks compensation for their loss and suffering. This fund would give priority to people who were injured in the attacks, then to the spouse, and then to the parents. The amount of money the family will receive was based on how much the victim earned had there been no attacks. For example, the workers that mopped and swept the floors earned less than the ones who were making money such as bankers. This means that the family of the low income families received low amounts of compensation versus the families that lost a victim that was a banker. This is the worst way to comfort victims and their families because they are not being treated equally even though they went through the same unfortunate event. It shows that the man earning more money is more valuable than the one earning less, even though they are working to make a

At the fanatical conclusion of Hamlet, we witness the deaths of almost all of the main characters, including Hamlet himself. Their deaths here are the results of a series of unfortunate events inevitably transpiring against them, set in motion by none other than human nature. In light of the situation, it appears that Hamlet’s ponderings on the unnecessity of suffering are justified. While the fear of the unknown is very real, the final release from struggles can be considered ultimate success. When confronted with the momentous decision over life, it is a sensible kind of madness that drives the individual into the unknowns of death.…

This belief is significant because it gives Hamlet a purpose as well as hope that he will achieve his goals. Without hope to reveal that Claudius killed his father and finally get revenge against him, Hamlet would have likely began to go insane and contemplate suicide more seriously. The level of hope is important to the theme of suicide in society because hope will likely prevent one from committing suicide as a result of the belief that his or her quality of life will improve in the future. Another aspect of perspective that greatly influences the decision to commit suicide is one’s perspective on his or her’s pain while dead versus his or her’s pain while alive. This is an important aspect because a major reason that people commit suicide is that they believe that the pain that they experience is so great and so constant that they would rather…

Hamlet showed many signs of depression and used a lot of sarcasm in this play, due mostly to the fact that his father died at the hands of his uncle. “To be or not to be - that is the question: Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, or to take arms against a sea of troubles And, by opposing, end them.” (III.i.64-68) He struggled with thoughts of suicide and putting himself down, and in the end, it’s safe to say that these instances coupled with his loss of a sense of purpose led Hamlet to his eventual demise. Some could argue that, had his father never appeared that one fateful night, Hamlet and many others may not have died.…

The idea that death is inevitable is one of the main meanings of the play that Shakespeare tried to convey to the audience. This can be shown through the various metaphors that were created and expanded upon during the play or by the overwhelming display of death near the end of the play in which nearly the entire cast is massacred. The concept of death in Hamlet is one that is closely tied to Hamlet in which almost every character he knows, including himself, is killed or has died by the end of the play. This is where the sympathy for Hamlet, someone who kills many people throughout the play, is found. Death surrounds him, taking himself and everyone he knows.…

When comparing the commencement speech given by Steve Jobs at Stanford University in 2005 to the commencement speech given by Barak Obama at Wesleyan University in 2008, one can argue that Steve Jobs’ address has a stronger use of the rhetorical situation and the rhetorical appeals. Jobs’ ability to combine ethos, pathos and purpose proves his credibility, builds a relationship with the audience, and helps students believe in their intuitions. In his 2005 commencement address to Stanford University, Steve Jobs incorporates ethos to prove his credibility to his audience. He begins by admitting that “[he] never graduated from college” (1).…
