My heart raced and sweat dripped down my back. I rushed back into the store, my eyes darting back and forth scanning the floor for any sign of those darn keys. I checked with lost and found, retraced my steps through the store and threw candy at Max to keep him happy. No luck. My heart sank as I wandered back to the car wondering how long it would take for my husband to rescue us.
Arriving at my car, I unexpectedly found an unfamiliar middle aged man, clad in work boots and a blue-striped flannel shirt, waiting patiently beside it. A smile stretched across his face as he raised his hand. I heard a jingle, and spotted something shiny dangling from his fingers. He was holding my keys! This Good Samaritan had saved me!
Relief washed over me, followed by a wave of gratitude. This stranger, a true gentleman, had found my keys on the road and spent the time to figure out which car they belonged to. He had looked in the window, spotted a car seat, and recognized that the owner of the keys was likely a mother with a small child. He had waited for me to return so that he could safely place the keys in my hand. I gushed words of thanks and offered to pay him for his help, but he just smiled. He said he hoped someone would do the same for his wife had she been in the same situation. He walked to his car and drove off, leaving me simply stunned by his thoughtfulness. He was my hero that day, and proved that kindness and humanity do still
