Letting her children learn about everything and choose for themselves will save them a lot of guilt and awkwardness in the future. I honestly find it hard to speculate how her kids would feel if they were forced to pray when it is not something they are used to doing. Maybe they find that they like it and agree with the extended family or they could feel how I felt as a child, very uncomfortable.
Some religions take themselves so seriously that the nonbelievers are outcast and even killed. This often happens in other countries but sometimes in the United States. Because of this there is a constant fear for people who are Atheist to hide behind the religion they were raised as, or is what is acceptable in their culture. It is a horrible feeling to be forced to do and think things that you do not believe in. I could not imagine being unable to eat certain foods, or being forced to fast for periods of time, or to have to pray several times a day, or to have to cover my head.
All different religions have all different sets of rules and they are all supposed to teach morality.
I truly do not believe you need all these things to be a moral person and I feel as though I am proof enough of
