I was raised as a very staunch Christian. My father attended church at least five times a week and my mother took me with her on Sundays. I was incredibly unhappy every time I was forced to go. I knew from a young age that I did not agree with what was being taught. Of course though as a child you obey your parents because that is what is ethical. They are raising you and teaching you the ways to live your life. So of course I went along with what they would say because I was afraid of how they would react if I went against their wishes. I did not come out as Atheist to my parents until I was twenty-one years old and I definitely wish I had sooner.
I was no longer living under their roof so they really had no say about what I believe. Of course

Letting her children learn about everything and choose for themselves will save them a lot of guilt and awkwardness in the future. I honestly find it hard to speculate how her kids would feel if they were forced to pray when it is not something they are used to doing. Maybe they find that they like it and agree with the extended family or they could feel how I felt as a child, very uncomfortable.

I could not imagine being unable to eat certain foods, or being forced to fast for periods of time, or to have to pray several times a day, or to have to cover my head.
All different religions have all different sets of rules and they are all supposed to teach morality.
I truly do not believe you need all these things to be a moral person and I feel as though I am proof enough of

Like all children all I ever wanted was to be big and do big people things. I engaged in a few family members that I would look up to and try everything they did. I use to pretend to go grocery shopping and being a parent at times. At the age of eight, I had worn the worst pain ever and that was watching my five, year old brother getting hit by a car while trying to cross the street riding a bicycle that had a loose chain. I remember him trying to get up and get to me, but a few adults that had witnessed the accident had told him to lay down.…

Becoming an adult is a momentous occasion in any young person’s life, but often it is marked by pain and hardships that push us as individuals to earn our autonomy and personal voice. There was an event in my life which pushed me to stand up to my parents and ultimately become an individual in their eyes. Life as a homeschooler was somewhat isolated until the end of my eighth-grade year. It was a damaging environment because of the constant interaction with my mother who was extremely critical and often lost her temper. The feeling that I could never please her overwhelmed me and even when I went to public school her manipulation of myself and others climaxed.…

Religion plays an important part in the African American community. In my case it was something that was a strong part of my life and we spent a lot of time in church. Final Exam 1. In “A Critique of Utilitarianism”, Bernard Williams argues against the fundamental characteristics of utilitarianism and believes that the notion of ends justifying the means are a way of representing the doctrine of negative responsibility which can lead to consequences from the choices we make/do not make (663). As a result, we are all responsible for the consequences that we fail to prevent as well as the ones we brought upon ourselves. That is, in each case the choice on whether an action is right is determined by its consequences (661). Williams gives the example of killing one villager to save 19 others (664) in which he critiques the different principles of utilitarianism and integrity - the moral righteousness that is…

As I began to develop into a teenager I began questioning my faith in God. I did not want to be confirmed into the church when I was fourteen, but my parents told me that I should at least try going to confirmation classes. I attended every confirmation class for months and at the end of confirmation classes I decided not to get confirmed. I did not think that I was ready for that kind of commitment and I was unsure about my own philosophical belief system. I think that it really hurt my parents feelings when I decided not to, but I am glad that they let me decide for myself about my own…
