Example Of A Narrative Essay On Becoming A Dentist

I was at the end of my hike alone at the top of the village of La Misión in Mexico, and reflected on my time spent at the health clinic. Many of the younger patients had never seen a dentist, including four-year-old Rebekah. She came to us in pain, so we examined her and found cavities that required both white fillings and an extraction. After finishing the fillings, we proceeded with the extraction. I was worried that Rebekah would become traumatized from her visit because we had to extract a tooth, but she behaved the entire time and would barely squeeze my hand when any pressure was applied. When we were finished, we returned her extracted tooth and showed her filling. Rebekah’s eyes glimmered at the tooth in her hand, the filling reflecting back at her through the mirror, then back to us. Her speechless expression was that of an overwhelmed child in a toy store. She accompanied her mom the next day, and adorably mimicked us in comforting her. At the end of the week, we attended a village event, and recognized many of our patients, including Rebekah and her family. Everyone gave us heartwarming greetings and updates on how much better they were feeling.

This ambition has given me the objectivity to address my academic challenges and discipline myself to overcome those challenges as a post-bac student. I am confident that I have grown into a better dental applicant and I feel ready to gain the knowledge and training to serve others as a dental professional.
