During my sophomore year as an undergraduate at the University of South Carolina, I was accepted into the Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program. I do not exaggerate when I say that this program changed the entire course of my life: helping me to fully understand my interests, altering my professional goals, and providing me with a viable path for my passions. As a first generation student, I had very little knowledge about how to navigate the sphere of undergraduate education and in the same vein, I knew next to nothing about graduate school. Before McNair I was never aware of what graduate school could offer me and the program, and the people it connected me with, became my greatest source of support as I made the journey into pursuing my doctorate.…

This technique in my mind is the key to succeeding with everything in life,no matter whether it's a job, school, or sports, it will lead you in the right direction. Or people say "good game" and I have no response, because in my mind I know that what I had done wasn't good enough. Whether it's a 400 yard game and 3 td's or a 2 yard game and no touchdowns, it's the same, because I still have more to prove.…

When I was younger and as I gradually grown up I had no recollection of a historically black college and university, partially due to that fact that college was not a big topic in my family. I feel it is very important to demonstrate qualities including leadership, scholarship, character, and service daily no matter where you are, what are you doing, or who you may be with. Leadership starts daily when one rises for the day. Preparing for the day, whether for school or work, not being late, being ahead of schedule shows interest in your challenges; your preparedness for your work. This also applies no matter where you are, for there are others that notice your actions and words regardless, of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or social or economic standing.
