I Want To Run Analysis

Decent Essays
The narrator’s conflict and motives for his actions were that he was embarrassed, because he was deciding to run away instead of going to war. I personally think that the narrator was right in wanting to flee instead of fight too, because I would not want to witness young boys and men being killed in front of me. Also I would not want to kill young boys and men. Another reason I would flee is the fact that I am a coward and do not want to risk my own life to kill other people. Finally I would flee because I would not pass up the option to go to college or to have a family. A quote that I agree or disagree with is “ My conscience told me to run, but some irrational and powerful force was resisting; like a weight pushing me toward the war. What it came down to, stupidly, was a sense of shame.” I agree with this quote because it lets us into what the narrator was thinking and feeling, it also shows us how the narrator’s brain is telling him something he knows is the rational thing to do, but he see it as an irrational situation. I also agree with the quote because I feel that if I was in the same situation, I would experience the same feelings of my conscience telling me to run, but the part of my brain that can see reason telling me that I should do the right thing and go to war. …show more content…
I disagree with this, because if you choose to go to war you should see your decision through and not just go and be like “ Oh, I came just because it was my job or duty to come.” If I was in the situation where I had made up my mind that I was going to go to war and I would fight because that is what I choose to do. I would also do my best at fighting and staying alive, and if my best was not good enough to where I got injured or killed than so be

War is always a way for men to get what they want or in most cases to settle a disagreement they have with each other. War is never a good thing because many innocent people die at war, they have their own lives and are dragged into fight for something they were originally not a part of. In some cases, however, men are more than glad to go into war and fight for anything, some treat it as an honorable thing to do, while others do it for their pride. The poems Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane and Camouflaging the Chimera by Yusef Komunyakaa are an example of the different points of view of two men who think differently about war.…

As Debs quotes "They have always taught and trained you to believe it to be your patriotic duty to go to war" meaning the government has taught one as a child to serve your country. As you go along in school one develops this mentality that as a citizen of this country one has to fulfill duties that will help the country like fighting in wars. For example, since the start of school a person is required to pledge allegiance to the flag. Students would get in trouble if they were to refuse pledging to the flag. Similar to the draft if one were to resist it, then they would not be for filling their so call duties as a citizen of the United States.…

“War does not determine who is right- only who is left,” is a quote by Bertrand Russell. This spectrum expresses the casualties of war. In other words, Russell means war is used as an outlet to define a “winner”, or in this case, someone who is right. The veiled truth is that there are no true winners of war when comparing the damage created and the lives lost. Looking at war through that perspective, John F. Kennedy, among others, also agreed.…

Charles Dickens once said “In a word, I was too cowardly to avoid what I Know to be right as I had been too cowardly to avoid what I know is wrong.” First of all, Reverend Parris appears to be a very good godly man, however he is a coward.…

There are many differing opinions on war and the motivation to fight in it. In Carl von Clausewitz’s famous document, On War, he goes in depth about his specific views on war. Clausewitz says that the ideology that people feel for the war is what motivates them to fight and this motivation is in direct correlation with the violence in the war, but I believe that it is people’s desire for change that motivates them to fight in the war. Though Clausewitz makes good points throughout On War, I believe that he missed this one. When people are not pleased with their current environment or with something that has happened, they want it to change.…
