Master of Science in Nursing Statement The healthcare system, specifically nursing, has always had a major influence in my life. I come from a family of nurses, and I have seen healthcare from an inside point of view as a registered nurse, as well as from the patient/family perspective. I am proud to be a member of the nursing profession, and nursing continuously provides opportunities for me to learn and grow. I would like to be a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) so I can utilize the clinical skills I have gained as a bedside nurse, and provide patients and their loved ones with the empathy I have acquired from my personal life experiences. I believe that these goals will help me have a role in improving and impacting the health of a diverse patient population. My personal experiences have had a significant role in shaping my desire to become a nurse, and ultimately becoming a nurse practitioner. When I was in high school, my mother was diagnosed with base of the tongue carcinoma. I watched her get admitted to the hospital on multiple occasions for acute symptoms and complications related to her cancer. I am in my third year of working as a bedside nurse in a hospital Orthopedic Neurology Trauma unit. In this role, I collaborate with patients to identify their main health issues and advocate to ensure that they receive the most effective plan of care. Patient interaction, learning new skills supported by evidence based practice, and being hands-on with patient care is what I enjoy the most about my job. Getting to know my patients as unique individuals, as well as through a medical perspective, allows me to provide individualized patient care. As an FNP, my goal would be to utilize these strengths and interests to ensure that each patient I encounter receives the best care
