Macbeth was already Thane of Glamis, but was not yet Thane of Cawdor, or king. The witches had only told him that he would later take on those titles, but they never said how he would become king or how he would become Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth made his own choices which led him to the top and then back down again on the power scale. Since the first and second predictions of the witches came true eventually, Macbeth wanted to find a way to be king. Just because the witches were correct with their prophecies, didn’t mean Macbeth was forced to kill Duncan. Macbeth could have found another way to become king since he was already Duncan’s right-hand man. Macbeth had been pleased with where he was at, slaughtering others for his people in battle,
