Dessie M. Sanders, is the next President of Grambling State University. She genuinely exemplifies the leadership that this university truly needs. I came to know Ms. Sanders when she came from Grambling and was hired two weeks into the fall semester at Wiley College two weeks, as an English Instructor. Her direct ability in demonstrating, in-depth knowledge of research, Common Core State Standards (CCSS), comprehensive assessment systems, and practice in curriculum, instruction, and assessment is what we needed in Developmental Reading and Writing, AVID and Educational Leadership under the Division of Social Sciences and Humanities. Ms. Sanders’s leadership skills, proved knowledgeable about understanding of strategic planning and student accountability…

I have also read about your new Frost Short Game Facility and it looks like a great addition to the program.…

While attending the week long freshman seminar many of the individuals that I had first contact with were ambassadors, carrying out tours and trying to coax the shyness out of new admits. At that point I knew that if the opportunity ever opened up to apply for the team then I would take advantage and apply. To me, ambassadors may not be the first face you come into contact with but they should make every effort to be the most memorable. Ambassadors have a crucial job in handling freshmen and transfers, individuals who may not be familiar with UHD or what it has to offer. I have been branded as a "people person" by those who personally know me but I am just very passionate about sharing knowledge and connecting with other individuals.…

Beyond dedication and efficiently completing the tasks required of me, my personal initiative to strive for greater feats is a quality that is essential in a President, whose duties do not rely on delegated tasks from another individual. In addition, my previous experiences leading other organizations and communicating with influential members within OCSA’s administrative body has allowed me to gain the qualities of a qualified candidate. This past fall semester, I worked with the administration to assist the counselors in volunteering at and planning for Freshman Retreat. I received this opportunity as my past position as President of Heart-2-Heart, a student lead club that formerly organized the retreats. This experience allowed me to gain proficiency communicating with administration and executing ideas in a timely manner, which are essential characteristics for an NHS President to possess.…

Volunteering over the summers at a camp for children ages two through nine has opened me to an entire set of skills that reflect those a qualified NSHSS Ambassador should have. Working with children requires you to act as a role model. From a young age what children are exposed to influences their views on right and wrong and what they think of as the right way to act, this is why you must be vigilant in constantly working to inspire them to have desirable traits. Quick thinking is also a big part of working with kids, you must always be on your toes, ready to change gears for whatever comes next and willing to do anything to reign in their short attention spans. It’s a tough job…
