I Want To Be A Human Service Worker Essay

Human services is a job that requires caring, respect, understanding, teamwork, and compassion. In order to perform the job correctly, one must have more than just knowledge and skill, they need deep-rooted kindness. I feel that I have these qualities and will use them to the best of my ability to help the people I serve. After my classes are completed, I hope that I will have the knowledge and resources to build a career that will be fulfilling and satisfying.
As a human service worker, I am going to help individuals who have mental health and substance abuse issues. Most of the people who will be joining this field will devote their energies to try to fix issues that are present now such as addiction, abuse, hunger, and poverty by providing various types of counseling and resources. After overcoming, all of them I hope to have a good understanding of how to do my job in the most effective manner possible. My main priority is to help these people and improve the overall quality of their lives. This takes a great amount of caring. I have experience working with people who suffer from mental health and substance abuse in an emergency room setting. . When I am with them, I do whatever I can to help them. From basic medical care, or just being there for them. I understand that sometimes people just need to know that someone cares and is there to help them.
In human services, I will encounter many ethical dilemmas, and I know that the number one important thing is to do what is in the best interest of the client. In addition, I believe that privacy is valued in the relationship between client and helper. It is the professional's job to make the client feel comfortable and at ease while receiving services.
