Being an American
There are many things that an American is. There is the good, but along with it comes the bad. No matter one's color, ethnicity, or culture success in America is something that anyone must work hard for. That popular idea of the "American Dream" doesn't come with the snap of your fingers, hard work is required just as much are time and money. The many struggles of being an American are quite clear when you are standing face to face with them. I was made to understand this through the stories "America and I" by Anzia Yezierska, "I, Too, Sing America", and "Let America Be America Again" by Langston Hughes. If one wants to be an American and be successful they must be prepared for strife, prejudice, and being mistreated.
