Elderly People Book Report

Great Essays
By reading this book I think it really helps with patient delivery care. This book was very interesting. Pat Moore went out of her way to turn into an elderly lady, because she was determined to see exactly how the elderly get treated or even how one day when she is “old” how she would possibly be treated. I think it was a great idea, because it just goes to show how elderly are really treated by other people. I think if more people read this they will have a different outlook on “old” people. A few things that I found or know are myths about elderly people were. First off, not all elderly people are completely weak just because they have reached a certain age. I know a few elderly people who are still very active and have been there entire …show more content…
We all have bad days, just like children, are they not allowed to have grumpy days. I feel everyone should be treated equally and with respect. Why treat the elderly bad their just like a child, would you treat your child that way? I have had one negative experience with an “old person”. This person was my neighbor down the street from me. She was a grumpy lady who sat outside in her rocker and would get mad if we accidentally kicked the ball in her yard, or if we even stepped foot in her yard. She was nice sometimes, but most days she was very mean and rude. She used to not hand out candy to us if we were not under the age of 4 she always thought Halloween was for the little toddlers to enjoy not us 5 and up children. We never really talked much to her because she was so mean, but I still was never hateful to her, rather than being hateful I was super kind to her. As a child, my mother always taught me to respect everyone, especially my elders or adults. I learned from this which is why I never was rude to any elderly person. I used to tell my friends who would say stuff to this old little grumpy neighbor lady, “Don’t be mean and rude back to her, that’s going to solve nothing, maybe she is just lonely and needs a friend”. They used to laugh at me, but really some day we will be old as well and we may be grumpy but we want people to respect us too. Also, when I was 17 I used to take care of my grandma and grandpa …show more content…
It is very interesting to see what Pat Moore goes through as an “old” and “young” person. I really liked the ideas that she used to do this whole thing. What she did was a very smart idea, and it really helped me as the reader understand more about how elderly are treated. She also did really good with helping the reader know all the details of what she

We all see the commercials on TV for life alert, hospice and even some nursing or retirement homes. This portrays an idea that elderly people are weak and are in a constant need of help. I would like to disagree with this idea. I’m not saying that elderly people do not need any help, I am merely saying that they are not nearly as weakly minded as society and the media likes to think and portrays them as. I believe that the elderly are actually some of if not the strongest people we have…

ausbrightfacilities.com.au - Green Cleaning for Nursing Home Facilities Ensuring that nursing home facilities are as clean and as sanitary as possible is serious business. When these places are not fully sanitised with cleaning solutions and disinfectants, infections can spread throughout them quickly and this puts the lives of the patients and healthcare workers at risk. Today, there also is a concern about the ingredients in the cleaning products used in the sanitising of these facilities since many of the commercial ones contain volatile organic compounds or VOCs that give off noxious fumes and other strong chemicals, and leave toxic residues behind even after rinsing the surfaces with clear water, and these products also will pollute the…

I know I keep saying people, but that is what they are. We shouldn't look at them as anything different. They still have feelings, just because they might be slower than us leaves no excuse to label them as anything else than people. Their basic needs are still the same as ours are, just the circumstances are different. So the next time you see an elderly person, lend a hand if they need it, or just make some small talk.…

When considering housing for the elderly we must take into consideration exactly what their vital needs are. Most families will take their parents to live with them, but sometimes that’s not such a good idea. When considering this you must think about the type care they will need, does it offer some safe enough surroundings? Would they be ok by themselves or would they need a caregiver? How will it affect them taking them away from everything they have ever known, their home, their friends, life as they have always known it?…

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us this week. Reading your post this week I learned something new about the Geriatric Nursing Journal (GNJ). According to Kartes and Kamel (2013) the Geriatric Nursing Journal is a comprehensive source for clinical information and management advice relating to the care of older adults. The journal's peer-reviewed articles reports the latest developments in the management of acute and chronic disorders and provide practical advice on care of older adults across the long term continuum(Kartes & Kamel, 2013). I think that the GNJ would be a great fit for anyone that is targeting the geriatric population.…

The aging population comes with a number of challenges - particularly that related with the degradation of bodily functions as we age. Organ systems begin to fail, and associated medical conditions can come about. Some common ones include diabetes, hypertension, cardiac pathologies including coronary artery disease. Cognitive decline also makes normal activities difficult - Parkinson's, Alzhiemer's etc. Notice that all of these pathologies mentioned are typically long-term issues - nothing that a quick round of drugs can fix, unlike an infection, let's say.…
