1) According to the article, I think Hasselstrom carries a gun because she wants to protect herself. She believes her situation is really risky and dangerous. She tried other ways but they are not good enough. She wants to have the same powers as the others. She knows she needs to defend herself. (53 words)
2) She also tried to learn protective action and learn how to avoid a fight in the kung fu class. Also, she learned how to convince others. Then she learned how to use a short gun in a right way. She changed her idea simply because she found these are not the best way. As far as I am concerned, she could change her job. Or, she could move. Also, she could take a gun with her and find someone to protect her. (82 words)
