I Survived Book Summary

The Book I chose to explore was I Survived: The Attacks of September 11th, 2001, author and illustrated by Lauren Tarshis. I chose this book because I enjoyed the previous "I survived" novel that I read. This book is a Non-Fiction book because the events that occur in this book actually happened. Lucas was a real person who saw the 2 gigantic airplanes crash into the twin towers right before his eyes. In addition, he saw them collapse and he, his father and Uncle were very lucky to be alive!
This book is about the terrifying 9-11 attacks that occurred at 8:46am in New York City, New York on September 11, 2001. The explosion scared thousands of people and almost 3000 people lost their lives in minutes. The concepts covered in this book, include eye witness details of what occurred during the attacks. For example, Lucas describes this nightmare right when it occurred. The sky went from bright blue to dark black smoke instantly. It was a challenge for people just to breathe, never mind survive. For example, Lucas saw the first jet fly really low and then speed up and crash into the first of the 2 towers, so the reader can understand how scared Lucas was. Another example was not even 15 minutes later when Lucas was trying to get as far away as possible, another plane crashed into the second tower and Lucas knew that this has to be some sort of terrorist attack. Now the reader can sense that Lucas is terrified of these two tragic moments because he doesn't know what's going to happen next. Lastly, when Lucas and his Dad were helping injured people, both towers instantly collapsed and many people were killed in a second. After all 3 of those horrific events occurred the reader can feel Lucas's pain because of what he had to go
