I stand shell-shock. Looking at the women only fifteen years older than me. My mother. I'm watching her get pulled away from me. She's screaming at the big men in black suits to keep me safe. She is pulled away from me. Before I can help it, tears are welling in my eyes, and I am screaming.
"I want mom back! BRING HER BACK!" I am sobbing by the time I am done. A woman then crouches in front of my two-year-old form.
"It's okay sweetie. We’re gonna bring you and your brother to a better home."
"But I want my mom!" I yell.
"She didn't have enough money to take care of you guys so she is gonna leave for a little bit."

I run into the bathroom trying not to let Phil and Caren hear me. I hear the front door open, I am frozen, I can’t move anything in my body. I hear the loud footsteps of the men. I quickly run out of the bathroom and grab Ben by the arm and yank him to the window. I can hear the men approaching the door and I jump. When my feet hit the ground I take a breath of relief, I turn my head and Ben is next to me. I start to run hoping that Ben is still right behind me, I can hear footsteps and heavy breathing but I am just assuming that it is Ben. I slightly turn my head and I see his royal blue sweatshirt, then I really know that it is him. We continue running and Ben says, “I think we lost them!” I stop running and Ben does the same, by now we are at least 5 blocks away from home and we are lost. I look in every direction and I do not recognize anything. I thought I knew this city front and back, and up and down. We take a right on Cunningham St. and I can see Main Street. I could get anywhere from Main Street, Mom’s old house was on Main. So many great memories were made there, but also my worst one happened there. I can still remember the guys in black suits taking Ben and I away from my mother. I still don’t know why but they did. That was the worst day of my life. You never know when something that bad is going to happen to you, and when it does, you wish everything was the way …show more content…
The tall lady pointed towards the basement door, she said nothing, she looked down and did not say another word. I grabbed Ben and pulled him behind me. I could tell he was shaking. It was a dark and cold, the walls were dripping with water. It smelled like rain. We continued to walk and I saw a little flashlight by my feet. As I turned it on I heard, “Turns off the lights! No light, light is bad!” I jumped back and hid behind Ben. Ben flashed the light in the corner where we heard the voice. “Stop, please, put it away!” Said again by the voice coming from the corner. As Ben approached her she scooted even farther back into the corner. “Hello, it’s okay, we won’t hurt you,” I said very softly. BAM! BANG! BOOM! The lights flashed on and the woman in the corner ran past the fireplace and between the two shelves. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Three men rushed down the stairs. “Big men in black suits, sunglass,” I thought, “They found us” Whispered
