As Emily grew older her mother remarried and had other children. When the second child came, Emily had caught the measles and could not see her mother or the baby for some time. Emily’s recovery was not the easiest. She had lost a lot of weight and had terrible nightmares. When Emily would wake up and need her mother, her mother would tell her to go back to sleep and not care for her. Her mother knew that Emily no longer wanted her care. Every time her mother checked on her, Emily told her mother to go back to bed. Soon, Emily’s social worker had persuaded Emily’s mother that Emily should go to a clinic to get better. Although the clinic was beautiful, there was no nurture and the kids there could not keep the letters sent by their families. During the time Emily was at the clinic nothing had changed; she did not gain weight back. After eight months, Emily could finally return to her family. She did not get better upon returning home because of the mindset of people having their children's body appearance was very important. Emily could not focus on her appearance or care for herself; she had to be a mother to her younger siblings while her mother worked and her step-father was stationed overseas during war. Emily had a negative mindset for herself due to her mother's negativity. Emily was very expressive as she performed, although it was thought that she was expressive due to the negativity in her life.
